My uncle needs help with his XJ6 project (pictured).

Does anyone know what manual transmissions will bolt up to a 4-liter AJ-V8 engine?

Thanks.

Isn't the answer when in doubt, ls1 swap?

Actually, there already is a Chevy small-block in there. Heh.

Good man looking at an AJ-V8. Chevy smallblocks sound easier, but they're just a little bit boring to me.

I've looked at them a little when considering making a manual XK. I don't think anyone does any specific kits, which is irritating, but it's definitely been done before .

One of the issues is that the ECU is coded to work with an automatic gearbox, so it'll throw fits if it doesn't receive info back from one. You can either run it on a standalone ECU (not actually that difficult), or buy a little black box that tricks the engine into thinking the auto is still there.

You also have to get a custom-made adapter plate, but that's something most machine shops should be able to do.

Other things you'd need are a pedal box (along with a clutch master cylinder if it's hydraulically operated), a mounting bracket, a flywheel, a clutch and a custom propshaft.

Gearbox options-wise, a T-5 or a Supra 5-speed are fairly common swaps generally, which would mean easier sourcing of bellhousing bolt patterns for making the adapter plate. Both should be beefy enough for the purpose as well.

Thanks a lot for all the information, I appreciate it! I'll send this to my uncle and see what he thinks.

A Supra gearbox would be pretty original for a '60s Jag. You were referring to Toyota's W transmissions? A glance at Wikipedia tells me the Mark III Supra had a 5-speed manual R transmission.

No worries :) you know I'm not sure which transmission they mean when they say 'Supra gearbox'. The made lots of Supras, presumably with different running gear, and I haven't actually researched which one they meant :S
